OpenAI has released a version of its latest model ChatGPT 4, and this new version is called GPT-4o, and it is making more capabilities available for free in ChatGPT. Yes, you heard right, more intelligence and advanced tools accessible to everyone. In this post, I tell you how you can make the most of this new technology to make your daily life easier.

What is GPT-4o ?

GPT-4o is a new version of the OpenAI's flagship model, based on the same intelligence as ChatGPT-4 but with improved speed and capabilities. This version not only understands text, but also handles voice and images in real time. Sf you are travelling and you see a menu in a language you don't know. You take a photo and GPT-4o translates the menu for you, tells you the history of the dishes and even gives you recommendations. It's like having a translator and tour guide in your pocket!

GPT-4o is much better than any other existing version of models for understanding and discussing the images you share. Future enhancements will enable real-time voice conversations and the ability to converse with ChatGPT via real-time video. For example, you could show ChatGPT a live match and ask it to explain the rules. OpenAI plans to release a new Voice Mode with these capabilities in alpha for Plus users in the coming weeks.

Limitations for Free Users

There will be a limit on the number of messages that users can send to the free of charge can send with GPT-4o depending on usage and demand. When the limit is reached, ChatGPT will automatically switch to GPT-3.5 so you can continue your conversations without any problems.

Improving your Workflow with the New Desktop App

For both free and paid users, a new desktop app for macOS is being launched. This app is designed to integrate seamlessly into your daily workflow. With a simple keyboard shortcut (Option + Space), you can ask ChatGPT a question instantly. You can also take and discuss screenshots directly in the app. Need a hand with an urgent task? Just click the headset icon in the bottom right corner to start a voice conversation.
